Prime Minister Harper introduces Australian counterpart to Parliament

Ottawa, Ontario

Prime Minister Stephen Harper today introduced Australian Prime Minister John Howard to members of Parliament and senators assembled for Mr. Howard's address to Parliament.

“Our two nations have much in common and much to be proud of, and I have no doubt that the close relationship between our two countries will continue for many years to come,” said Prime Minister Harper in his introductory remarks. “In the months and years that lie ahead, I look forward to working with Prime Minister Howard on enhancing the special relationship that exists between Canberra and Ottawa.”

Prime Minister Howard is in Ottawa from May 18 to 20, 2006. During his visit, the two leaders will have the opportunity to meet and discuss key issues of interest to both countries.

Prime Minister Howard begins his address at 3 PM.
