Canada's new government supports Canada's new immigrants

Richmond, B.C.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper praised Canada’s Filipino community for its commitment to helping new immigrants and its contributions to the nation’s economic and cultural way of life.

In a speech tonight honouring the work of the Multicultural Helping House Society in Richmond, B.C., the Prime Minister noted that the organization helps new Filipino-Canadians and other immigrants to find homes, jobs and a new life in their adopted country. He added that Canada’s new government has implemented policies to help immigrants become full and participating members of the Canadian society.

“We recently cut the Right of Permanent Residence Fee in half, earmarked funds for a centre for foreign credential assessment and recognition and increased funding for settlement assistance,” the Prime Minister said.

Prime Minister Harper also paid tribute to Canada’s Filipino community for its contributions to the country’s development.

“Your values of hard work, community support and strong families are making Canada even stronger,” the Prime Minister concluded.
