PRIME MINISTER STEPHEN HARPER ISSUES GREETING TO MARK KOREAN NEW YEAR

February 5, 2007
Ottawa, Ontario

Prime Minister Stephen Harper issued the following greeting to all Korean-Canadians celebrating the New Year:

An young ha sae yo.

Please accept my warmest greetings as you celebrate the Korean New Year.

The Korean community has a long and proud history in Canada. You’re recognized and respected for your hard work and entrepreneurship, your commitment to family and community, and for all you’ve done to help build our great country.

After meeting some impressive young Korean-Canadian scholarship winners in Vancouver last fall, I can predict with confidence that your community will continue to flourish.

Canada is a nation of immigrants who have built a country that is strong, united, independent and free. A country that provides equal opportunity for all, a country that values and respects the rich cultural traditions of all our peoples, and a country that treats everyone as full-fledged members of our diverse Canadian family.

So as you gather with your friends and family to celebrate this ancient and honourable Korean tradition, please know that you are treasured members of our family.

May the New Year bring health, happiness, and success.

Thank you.
