PRIME MINISTER ANNOUNCES THE APPOINTMENT OF HIS PERSONAL REPRESENTATIVE FOR THE 2007 G8 SUMMIT

Ottawa, Ontario

Prime Minister Stephen Harper today announced the appointment of David Mulroney, Associate Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, as his personal representative for the next G8 Summit to be held in Heiligendamm, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Germany, from June 6 – 8, 2007.

Mr. Mulroney is one of Canada's most senior and experienced diplomats. >From 2001 to 2005, Mr. Mulroney was Canada's Senior Official for APEC (Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation) where he provided support for the annual Leaders' Summits. Mr. Mulroney recently served as the Foreign and Defence Policy Advisor to the Prime Minister in the Privy Council Office.

Mr. Mulroney is charged with the coordination of the substantive policy agenda for the Summit, as well as ensuring implementation of initiatives afterwards. This appointment takes effect March 5, 2007.
