RENEWS-CAPPAHAYDEN, NL

Prime Minister Stephen Harper joined current and former residents of Renews-Cappahayden for their 2008 'Come Home Year' Celebrations.

"No matter where you travel in Canada, one thing that always amazes me is how deeply Canadians care about the place they call home," said the Prime Minister. "Perhaps nowhere is this more true than among Newfoundlanders and Labradorians. For the people of this province, 'coming home' is not just about returning to the place of your birth, it is also about reconnecting with what is one of the most distinctive and remarkable cultures in the world."

'Come Home Year' Celebrations in Renews-Cappahayden will run from August 8th-16th. As part of the 'Come Home Year' Celebrations, the Prime Minister attended a performance of the famous Signal Hill Tattoo.

"In virtually every corner of Canada we see Newfoundlanders helping their fellow Canadians build a better country. This includes in Canada's Parliament where I count myself fortunate to have three strong Newfoundland colleagues in Loyola Hearn, Fabian Manning and Norman Doyle," said the Prime Minister. "I hope that as many former residents as possible have the opportunity to join this celebration and make it back home."
