Statement by the Prime Minister of Canada on Vietnamese New Year

January 21, 2011
Ottawa, Ontario

Prime Minister Stephen Harper today issued the following greeting for Vietnamese New Year:

"It is my pleasure to extend best wishes on behalf of the Government of Canada as you celebrate Tet.

"The New Year is an important time to celebrate with family and friends. It is also a time for all Canadians to mark the important contribution of the Vietnamese community to our Canadian society. Vietnamese Canadians are making a difference in cities and towns right across this great country.

"On a personal note I must say that Laureen and I — like many other feline lovers — are particularly excited to mark the beginning of the Year of the Cat.

"May you and your family all enjoy a happy, healthy and prosperous year."
