Statement by the Prime Minister of Canada on Mother's Day
May 8, 2011
Ottawa, Ontario
Prime Minister Stephen Harper today issued the following statement to mark Mother's Day:
"Laureen and I would like to wish mothers across Canada a happy Mother's Day – a day when we honour and celebrate their strength, guidance and compassion.
"Mothers are the anchors of our families, dedicating themselves to being our most important role models, nurturers and teachers. Motherhood involves passing on the values and life lessons our youth need to become outstanding Canadians.
"As we pay tribute to our mothers, including those who are no longer with us, we should take a moment to consider the sacrifices they have made for us.
"Our Government recognizes the importance of supporting mothers both at home and abroad. We are showing true leadership on the world stage by taking tangible and practical measures to support maternal health and save the lives of women and their children in the developing world, where the need for action is especially urgent.
"As Canadians celebrate Mother's Day, Laureen and I wish all families health and happiness in the coming year."
