PM marks 25th anniversary of Rick Hansen's Man in Motion Tour

August 24, 2011
Ottawa, Ontario

Prime Minister Stephen Harper issued the following statement to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Rick Hansen's Man in Motion Tour:

"Twenty-five years ago, Rick Hansen inspired Canadians – and people everywhere – with his Man In Motion World Tour, journeying through dozens of countries by wheelchair over a period of more than two years.

"Through his remarkable drive and determination, Rick continues to motivate thousands of Canadians, bringing us closer to a cure for spinal cord injuries and helping improve the quality of life of people with these disabilities.

"Our Government has been a steadfast supporter of the Rick Hansen Foundation. Established in 1988, the Foundation helps raise awareness, advance important research and build more inclusive communities that have benefitted tens of thousands of Canadians.

"On behalf of all Canadians, I wish Rick Hansen – a man we all respect and admire – the greatest success as he launches his 25th Anniversary Relay today in Cape Spear, Newfoundland and Labrador, which will retrace the Canadian portion of his original Man In Motion."
