Prime Minister announces federal funding to clean up Saint John Harbour
March 24, 2006
Saint John, New Brunswick
Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced today that the federal government, in conjunction with the Provincial Government and the City of Saint John, will undertake the initial steps to clean up Saint John Harbour with a total investment of $8.5 million allocated on a cost shared basis. We are going to lay the necessary ground work for the broader cleanup by funding the construction of a new lift station, the associated forcemain collector, and sanitary collector systems.
The PM went on to note: The harbour is a vital cultural, economic, and natural resource for not only Saint John, but for the Province as a whole, said Prime Minister Harper.
During this announcement, the Prime Minister acknowledged the hard work and dedication of New Brunswick Premier Bernard Lord. Prime Minister Harper said that he shares a similar vision for not only New Brunswick, but for the country as a whole with Premier Lord, which is a growing, prosperous New Brunswick in a strong Canada.
In the weeks, months, and hopefully years, ahead, my Government will continue to work with Premier Lord in cleaning up Saint John Harbour, said the Prime Minister.
