Statement by the Prime Minister on the passing of Bernard "Boom Boom" Geoffrion

Prime Minister Stephen Harper today issued the following statement on the passing of hockey legend “Boom Boom” Geoffrion:

“All Canadians learned with profound sadness today the passing of Bernard ‘Boom Boom’ Geoffrion.

“During his illustrious career as a hockey player, in particular with the Montreal Canadiens, and until the end of his public life, Mr. Geoffrion gave us all an example of pride, determination and courage that are now part of our history.

“Sweater number 5 hangs in the Bell Centre as a glorious emblem in the history of our national sport.

On behalf of the Government of Canada, I would like to extend our condolences to the family of Mr. Geoffrion, and the expression of our admiration for a remarkable personality.”
