PRIME MINISTER CONGRATULATES NEW PREMIER OF ALBERTA

Ottawa, Ontario

Prime Minister Stephen Harper today issued the following statement congratulating the Honourable Ed Stelmach on his being sworn-in as Premier of Alberta:

“I congratulate Premier Ed Stelmach on becoming Alberta’s thirteenth Premier. Albertans will be led by a proud Canadian who will diligently manage their province's impressive social and economic development. Mr Stelmach served with distinction as a Minister in the government of outgoing Premier Ralph Klein. He held a number of different portfolios and gained extensive experience in the areas of infrastructure, transportation, agriculture and intergovernmental affairs, which will greatly benefit all citizens.

“I look forward to working with Premier Stelmach in the coming months to address questions of importance to Albertans and all Canadians.”
