STATEMENT BY THE PRIME MINISTER ON THE RESULTS OF THE NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR ELECTION

Ottawa, Ontario

Prime Minister Stephen Harper today issued the following statement on the results of the election in Newfoundland and Labrador:

"On October 9, the people of Newfoundland and Labrador exercised their democratic right and re-elected the Conservative Party of Newfoundland and Labrador to form their provincial government. On behalf of the Government of Canada, I congratulate Premier Danny Williams on his successful campaign. Clearly, the people of Newfoundland and Labrador are united in their steadfast pursuit of a bright and secure future for all. Canada's New Government is committed to work with the province towards the shared goal of a strong Newfoundland and Labrador within a strong Canada."
