PRIME MINISTER ANNOUNCES APPOINTMENT OF THE HONOURABLE MR. JUSTICE DAVID H. JENKINS AS CHIEF JUSTICE OF PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND

Ottawa, Ontario

Prime Minister Stephen Harper today announced the appointment of The Honourable Mr. Justice David H. Jenkins, Justice of the Supreme Court of the Prince Edward Island trial division, as Chief Justice of Prince Edward Island. He replaces the Honourable Chief Justice Gerard E. Mitchell.

Chief Justice Jenkins was first appointed to the Supreme Court in 1993 following a lengthy career with the firm Stewart McKelvey Stirling Scales. Chief Justice Jenkins has been active in the legal community having served as President of the Federation of Law Societies, President of the Judges Counseling Program and currently as President of the Canadian Superior Courts Judges Association.

This appointment is effective immediately.
