PRIME MINISTER HARPER WELCOMES CHILEAN PRESIDENT MICHELLE BACHELET

Ottawa, Ontario

Prime Minister Stephen Harper today announced that the President of Chile, Michelle Bachelet, will lead a delegation of government and business representatives on a working visit to Canada from June 8 to 11, 2008.

Prime Minister Harper will meet with President Bachelet in Ottawa, where they will have the opportunity to discuss the broadening of Canada-Chile cooperation in areas such as trade, investment and education. Discussions will also focus on regional and global matters of common interest.

President Bachelet will also travel to Quebec City, where she will participate in the celebration of the city's 400th anniversary, and to Montreal, where she will be a keynote speaker at the International Economic Forum of the Americas/Conference of Montreal.
