The Prime Minister announces the appointment of Sheila-Marie Cook as Secretary to the Governor General of Canada

Ottawa, Ontario

Prime Minister Stephen Harper was pleased to announce today the appointment of Ms. Sheila-Marie Cook as Secretary to the Governor General of Canada. She replaces Barbara Uteck who is moving on to new challenges within the Public Service of Canada.

Ms. Cook has many years of experience working in the federal public service and in para-public organizations, most recently as Executive Director and Commission Secretary to the Commission of Inquiry into the Investigation of the Bombing of Air India Flight 182. Prior to that, she held the same position at the Commission of Inquiry into the Sponsorship Program and Advertising Activities.

This appointment is effective September 18 2006.
