STATEMENT BY PRIME MINISTER STEPHEN HARPER ON THE DEATHS OF THREE CANADIAN SOLDIERS

June 20, 2007
Ottawa, Ontario

Prime Minister Stephen Harper issued the following statement today on the deaths of three Canadian Soldiers:

"We have lost three brave Canadian soldiers today in Afghanistan. My thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones of Sergeant Christos Karigiannis, Corporal Stephen Bouzane and Private Joel Wiebe, and I would like to extend my most heartfelt condolences in their time of sorrow.

Thanks to the dedication of these soldiers and their colleagues, we are building trust and respect among local Afghans. We are working together to free their country from the tyranny of the Taliban and other insurgents.

Our mission in Afghanistan will continue to have risks, but we can be proud of members like Sergeant Karigiannis, Corporal Bouzane and Private Wiebe, who have helped bring hope to a country that has known much despair and instability.

We will never forget their sacrifice."
