Prime Minister Stephen Harper today issued the following statement on the results of the election in Alberta:

"On March 3, the people of Alberta exercised their democratic right and re-elected the Progressive Conservative Party to be their government. On behalf of the Government of Canada, I extend congratulations to Premier Ed Stelmach and his team on their successful campaign and I wish them success in dealing with issues of importance to Albertans.

"The Government of Canada has been pursuing a more open federalism that recognizes the strength and contribution of each region of this country. I look forward to continuing to work with Premier Stelmach and the other first ministers to build a stronger and better Canada."
