October 6, 2007
CALGARY

Prime Minister Stephen Harper today issued the following statement on the death of Constable Christopher John Worden:

"Today, a brave officer lost his life to a senseless act of violence. Constable Christopher John Worden died in the line of duty, doing what he loved, serving his country in the uniform of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).

The citizens of Hay River will mourn this loss, and Canadians everywhere will be saddened by this incident. Everyone who knew Constable Worden will remember him for his professionalism and his dedication. This tragedy serves to remind us all of the courage and commitment that the members of the Force show each and every day, from coast to coast.

On behalf of all Canadians, I wish to extend my deepest sympathies to his wife and daughter and to all the family and friends and colleagues of Constable Worden at this difficult time.''
