PRIME MINISTER ANNOUNCES A CHANGE IN THE SENIOR RANKS OF THE PUBLIC SERVICE

February 15, 2008
Ottawa, Ontario

Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced today the following changes in the senior ranks of the Public Service:

Ivan Fellegi, currently Chief Statistician, becomes Chief Statistician Emeritus following his retirement, effective June 16, 2008.

Munir Sheikh, currently Deputy Minister of Labour and Associate Deputy Minister of Human Resources and Social Development, becomes Chief Statistician Designate, effective March 3, 2008 and, following the retirement of Mr. Fellegi, will become Chief Statistician, effective June 16, 2008.

Hélène Gosselin, Deputy Head of Service Canada and Associate Deputy Minister of Human Resources and Social Development, also becomes Deputy Minister of Labour, effective March 3, 2008.

Leonard J. Edwards, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, takes on the additional responsibility of G8 Sherpa, effective immediately.

Stephen Rigby, currently Executive Vice-President of the Canada Border Services Agency, becomes Associate Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, effective March 3, 2008.

Greta Bossenmaier, currently Vice-President, Innovation, Science and Technology Branch, Canada Border Services Agency, becomes Executive Vice-President of the Canada Border Services Agency, effective March 3, 2008.

Jeanne M. Flemming, currently Assistant Secretary, Social and Cultural Sector, Treasury Board Secretariat, becomes director of the Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Centre of Canada, effective March 3, 2008.


The Prime Minister took the opportunity to thank Ivan Fellegi for his dedication to the Public Service and his extensive contribution in serving Canadians over the years, and to wish him all the best in his future endeavours.
