PRIME MINISTER ANNOUNCES CHANGES IN THE SENIOR RANKS OF THE PUBLIC SERVICE

May 15, 2007
Ottawa, Ontario

Prime Minister Stephen Harper today announced the following changes in the senior ranks of the Public Service, which are effective June 4, 2007:

I. David Marshall, currently Deputy Minister of Public Works and Government Services, becomes Senior Advisor to the Privy Council Office, pending his next assignment.

François Guimont, currently President of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, becomes Deputy Minister of Public Works and Government Services.

Carole Swan, currently Senior Associate Deputy Minister of Industry, becomes President of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.

The Prime Minister also took the opportunity to announce the appointment of Dr. Brian Evans as Executive Vice-President of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, which is effective June 28, 2007, as well as the reappointment of Alan Latourelle as Chief Executive Officer of the Parks Canada Agency, effective August 7, 2007.

DR. BRIAN EVANS

Dr. Brian Evans was appointed Chief Veterinary Officer of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency in June 2004 and in that capacity, serves as the Agency's senior advisor on animal and veterinary public health issues. Prior to this appointment, Dr. Evans held a number of other positions within the Agency, including Executive Director of the Animal Products Directorate, and Director of the Animal Health and Production Division. Prior to joining the public service, Dr. Evans was a private practitioner in a large veterinary clinic in Peterborough.



ALAN LATOURELLE

Alan Latourelle was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Parks Canada Agency on August 7, 2002. Since 1983, he has held positions of increasing responsibility at the National Capital Commission, culminating as Director of Finances. Mr. Latourelle joined the Parks Canada Agency in 1997, where he held the positions of Director General for Western Canada and Chief Administrative Officer, Strategy and Plans.
