SENATOR TO REPRESENT CANADA AT FUNERAL OF ZAMBIAN PRESIDENT

September 2, 2008
Ottawa, Ontario

Prime Minister Stephen Harper today announced that Senator Raynell Andreychuk will represent Canada at the state funeral of Zambia's President Levy Mwanawasa. The funeral will take place on September 3, 2008, in Lusaka, Zambia.

"Canada joins the international community in mourning the passing of President Mwanawasa, a strong and principled African leader," said the Prime Minister. "His leadership in Zambia, and more broadly in the Southern African Development Community, will be missed."

Senator Andreychuk is a former judge and Canadian High Commissioner, and is currently co-chair of the Canada-Africa Parliamentary Association.
