STATEMENT BY THE PRIME MINISTER ON ARGENTINA'S PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION

October 31, 2007
Ottawa, Ontario

Prime Minister Stephen Harper today issued the following statement congratulating Senator Cristina Fernández de Kirchner on her election as Argentina's next President:

"I congratulate Senator Fernández on her decisive victory in Argentina's Presidential election on October 28.

As Canada continues its renewed engagement in the Americas, promoting freedom, democracy, human rights and the rule of law, I look forward to working with Dr. Fernández to further enhance the cooperative and productive bilateral relations that unite our two countries.

Argentina is a valued partner in hemispheric and global affairs as we work toward improvement of conditions throughout the Americas and around the world."
