May 10, 2008
Ottawa, Ontario

Prime Minister Stephen Harper issued the following statement on the death of Arthur Kroeger, C.C., M.A., LL.D.:

"I was saddened to hear of the passing of Arthur Kroeger. A Companion of the Order of Canada and legendary public servant, Arthur devoted five decades to his country, advising countless ministers and prime ministers.

His career was marked by strong leadership, wise management and a sterling dedication to the country. His life was a shining example everyone associated with public administration in Canada. The Arthur Kroeger College of Public Affairs is a fitting permanent memorial to his legacy.

On behalf of the Government of Canada, I would like to offer my sincere condolences to his loved ones, particularly Huguette Labelle and his children."
