Statement by the Prime Minister of Canada on Yukon Premier Darrell Pasloski

June 11, 2011
Ottawa, Ontario

Prime Minister Stephen Harper today issued the following statement to welcome Darrell Pasloski as the new Premier of Yukon:

"On behalf of our Government, I offer my most sincere congratulations to Mr. Pasloski on winning the leadership of his party and becoming the next Premier of Yukon.

"Our Government has made Canada's North a cornerstone of its agenda, and I look forward to working closely with him to take action on the priorities of Yukoners and all Canadians, including the implementation of our Northern Strategy.

"I also wish to take this opportunity to thank Dennis Fentie for serving as Premier of Yukon for almost a decade, working tirelessly for Yukoners and helping to make the territory, and Canada, a stronger and more prosperous place to live.

"Since he became Premier in 2002, Mr. Fentie worked to ensure firm job creation in Yukon, and was steadfast in his support for the modern mining boom currently underway. He was also firmly committed to boosting the status of Yukon First Nations, both within the territory and elsewhere in Canada, which will benefit generations to come.

"I wish Mr. Fentie all the best in his future endeavours."
