May 5, 2011
Ottawa, Ontario

Prime Minister Stephen Harper today issued the following statement on flooding in Quebec's Richelieu Valley:

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the Richelieu Valley during the devastating floods that have hit the region this month.

"I want to assure those families affected, and those dear to them, that the Government of Canada stands ready to assist the people of Quebec in this difficult time.

"We will answer the call for assistance with all means necessary to help ensure the safety of those affected by the rising waters.

"We stand in solidarity with those families facing danger and evacuation from their homes, and on behalf of all Canadians, we hope for a speedy end to the flooding and return to safe conditions as soon as possible.
