H. Frank Lewis

Frank Lewis was born in York, Prince Edward Island.

He began his broadcast career at CFCY radio in Charlottetown, P.E.I. in 1966 as a junior salesman and established himself as one of Atlantic Canada's most respected broadcasters during a career that spanned 38 years.

During his early years at CFCY, Mr. Lewis distinguished himself through his natural talent for sales and effortless ability to connect with people. A testament to the loyalty he inspired in others, many employees worked with Mr. Lewis for more than 25 years as the station prospered under his stewardship as Vice President and General Manager. He retired from the station in December of 2004 and then worked as a senior advisor for NewCap Radio.

Mr. Lewis was also a successful business owner and an active volunteer in his community. He was owner of Stanhope Ice House and Rentals for more than a decade beginning in 1961, and co-owner of Vacationland Travel Park from 1968 to 1983. His involvement in local activities and associations includes serving as National Governor and member of the Board and Executive Committee of the Confederation Centre of the Arts and as Chair of the Junior Achievement of Prince Edward Island Business Hall of Fame. He is also Founding Chairman of the Hillsborough Rotary Club Annual Car Dinner and Founder of the Greater Charlottetown Area Chamber of Commerce's "Unforgettable Evening" Women's Dinner and Entrepreneurial Excellence Award.

Mr. Lewis was inducted into the Canadian Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 2006. He has also won numerous other awards and commendations recognizing his many accomplishments, including receiving the Children's Wish Foundation P.E.I. Chapter Special Recognition in 2009, the Tourism Industry Association of P.E.I. President's Award in 2002 and the Media Person of the Year for both 1991 and 1981, and the Greater Charlottetown Area Chamber of Commerce Transportation and Communications Person of the Year in 1988.

Mr. Lewis lives in Prince Edward Island with Dorothy, his wife of 54 years. They have five children, eleven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

PM announces H. Frank Lewis as new Lieutenant Governor of PEI

Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced today the appointment of H. Frank Lewis as Lieutenant Governor of Prince Edward Island. Mr. Lewis, a respected broadcaster, was appointed by Governor General David Johnston on the advice of Prime Minister Harper.

"Over a broadcasting career that spanned decades, Frank Lewis established himself as a leader in Prince Edward Island, one with a deep commitment to his family, community, and province," Prime Minister Harper said. "Along with his dedication and strong work ethic, Mr. Lewis brings a lifetime of experience in the province to this important role."

Mr. Lewis began his career at CFCY radio in Charlottetown in 1966, and retired 38 years later as Vice President and General Manager. After his retirement, Mr. Lewis worked as a senior advisor for NewCap Radio, and in 2006 he was inducted into the Canadian Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame.

Lieutenant Governors are appointed by His Excellency the Governor General on the advice of the Prime Minister. They serve five-year terms, during which they act as their provinces' vice-regal representatives. Prime Minister Harper consulted Premier Robert Ghiz and Opposition Leader Olive Crane before selecting Mr. Lewis.

The Prime Minister also took the opportunity to thank the Honourable Barbara Oliver Hagerman for her five years of tireless service as Lieutenant Governor of Prince Edward Island, which began in July 2006.
